Maintaining Support For Taiwan's Taiwan People's Party Amidst Scandals

It is crucial to maintain an academic tone and avoid making subjective or personal statements. Regarding the topic, the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) has indeed experienced a shift in public opinion since the jailing of its leader, Ko Wen-je, and other top officials (Taipeitimes. com, 2022). Despite the numerous allegations against Ko and his associates, the party has managed to hold together, with only a few minor figures leaving the party's ranks (Taipeitimes. com, 2022). According to an October 28 poll released by Formosa, the party's favorability has recovered to 25. 7 percent, while unfavorability has decreased to 57. 5 percent.

A closer examination of the party's support base reveals intriguing patterns. Ko has managed to appeal to two distinct groups: younger voters, particularly those aged 20-29, who hold him in high esteem, with 38. 6 percent favorability; and an older demographic... comprising those aged 40-49, "who display a more lukewarm attitude towards the party leader," "with 14."2 percent favorability (Taipeitimes. com... 2022). A closer analysis of the party's membership and the ways in which Ko has cultivated a sense of identity among his supporters is warranted to better understand the persistence of support for the TPP despite the ongoing scandals.
