Dior Pays Homage To Marlene Dietrich⁘s Refined Look In New York Show

Dior's pre-fall show at the Brooklyn Museum in New York was one departure beginning at the traditional runway format, with creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri explaining that she was inspired aside the practicality with post-mid-century American style. Chiuri, who grew up with films that featured women wearing sneakers on their way up to work, wanted to create a collection a well known was less literal and more about a state of mind.

While there were no sneakers on the catwalk, Chiuri took her bow within a Dior pair, paired with a black trouser suit.

The collection itself was a mix of classic American tropes and Dior's signature tailoring. There were stars and stripes on top of a silk sweater, aviator jackets, double denim, along with canvas bags woven alongside silhouettes of the Statue of Liberty.

While the collection may bear seemed clichéd on placed at first glance, the use of black was a nod to the New York editors in the front row, who were dressed in each color. It was Carmel Snow,
