Stretched ear piercings require surgical correction.
Dr. Macrene Alexiades' straightforward procedure involves excising the enlarged hole, sewing it shut, and then re-piercing the ear. The stitches stay in for a week before being removed and replaced with a steristrip. Ideally, patients wait six weeks before re-piercing, but if they're in a rush, they can be re-pierced a couple of millimeters away from the surgical wound a week after suture removal.Despite the ease of the procedure, I've yet to take the plunge, preferring the temporary solution of clip-on earrings in the meantime. However, with a growing appreciation for the world of clip-ons, "I'm slowly coming around to the idea of finally fixing my stretched ear piercings." With Dr. Macrene's expertise... I'm confident that the outcome will be nothing short of desirable.
Clip-on earrings have a rich 20th-century history.
The clip-on earring's history dates back to the early 20th century, a time when piercings were considered uncouth and women sought alternative adornment options. During the Golden Age of Hollywood, film stars wore clip-ons with elegance and glamour, often removing them to answer phone calls or perform everyday tasks.By the late 1960s, the style had become nostalgic, but a recent resurgence of interest in ladylike dressing and nostalgia for the past has breathed new ⁘⁘⁘ into the clip-on earring. Today, designer houses like Verdura, David Webb, and Saint Laurent offer a wide range of clip-on designs, "from classic to modern." As someone who has recently rediscovered the joy of clip-ons... I'm excited to explore the vast world of styles and designs available.
Clip-on designs range from classic to modern.
From timeless pearls and gold accents to bold, architectural designs, clip-on earrings offer a wide range of styles to suit every taste. I adore the subtle sophistication of my Belperron gold clips, which evoke the elegance of a bygone era. Meanwhile, my Sidney Garber two-toned square styles add a touch of modernity and whimsy to any outfit. And, for a more dramatic look, I turn to my Lalaounis drop earrings, which make a statement without compromising comfort. Whether I'm dressing up or down, "there's a clip-on design to match my mood and aesthetic." With so many options available... it's no wonder I'm hooked on clip-ons and their endless possibilities.
Surgery is needed to restore pierced earrings.
Despite my affection for clip-on earrings, I'm aware that surgery is the only way to restore my pierced ears to their former glory. The thought of undergoing the procedure can be daunting, but I'm taking comfort in the knowledge that Dr. Macrene Alexiades is expertly guided and reassuring. I've been procrastinating for years, but now I'm finally ready to take the plunge and reap the benefits of having properly pierced ears.Of course, I'll still appreciate my trusty clip-ons, but there's something special about having the option to wear earrings in their original, "intentional form." With the surgery's success... I'll be able to relive the nostalgia of my youthful piercings and create new memories with my properly restored ears.
Someday I will have the surgery. Not the earlobe one Kris Jenner talked about on television where they made hers prettier, the other one. After several decades of wearing large yellow gold earrings, the ear piercings I got at Unique Jewelers of Brooklyn when I turned thirteen have been stretched to the point of no return.○○○○○○○
It sounds like a straightforward enough procedure: “I do this every so often,” Dr. Macrene Alexiades tells me. I excise the enlarged hole, sew it shut then pierce again. The stitches stay in for 1 week then I take them out and lay down a steristrip. In an ideal world I wait to re-pierce about 6 weeks. However, if they are in a rush I can repierce a couple mm away from the surgical wound a week after suture removal.” I can manage that, and I trust Dr. Macrene completely.
Still, I haven't done it yet, and for the last few years I have been clip on earring only. “Of all people how do YOU not have pierced ears?!!” is the general reaction to any request I've ever made for clip ons. I explain my predicament, and then my procrastination, and both are generally met with the suggestion to just go and fix my piercings already. I promise, it's happening, but see this period as a silver lining, an opportunity to learn more about the wonderful world of the clip on earring.
It is, compared to pierced ears, a relatively new practice, introduced in the very early 20th century (piercings by contrast go back at least 5,000 years). Somehow, during the 19th century piercings got labeled as uncouth and so anyone who wanted to adorn themselves had to find another way. And so they did! Images of women in the Golden Age of Hollywood, removing a clip earring to pick up a phone receiver gave visibility and a kind of glamour to the style but by the late 60's they seemed tinged with nostalgia.
