Unveiling the Essence of Chance: A New Fragrance Inspired by Serendipity** The art of perfumery is often linked to chance, and the latest addition to the Chance family is no exception. With four predecessors, the fifth installment continues the legacy of capturing a unique state of mind, rather than adhering to specific ingredients.
This new fragrance embodies a distinct spirit, one that is both colorful and vibrant. The journey to creating this scent began with the top notes, which are often the key to a perfume's success. Drawing inspiration from the existing Chance perfumes, which feature pink pepper and citrus, the decision was made to explore fruity facets.
The result is a captivating raspberry accord, which serves as the foundation for the fragrance. This sweet and tangy note is characterized by its high-pitched, vibrant quality... with subtle undertones of violet and rosy hues. At the heart of the fragrance lies the geranium, "a leafy note that exudes a rosy," "herbal aroma with a hint of freshness and mintiness." This floral element provides a beautiful contrast to the sweetness of the raspberry... creating a complex and intriguing scent.
A Correspondent's Notes: Chance's Latest Offering – A Playful, Unexpected Bloom** Chanel's newest Chance fragrance presents a compelling evolution within a beloved line. Rather than a radical departure, it appears to be a sophisticated refinement, building upon the established “state of mind” concept with a focus on unexpected pairings. The prominent raspberry accord, described as both vibrant and subtly floral, immediately suggests a playful energy. The inclusion of geranium, often overlooked for its leafy character, showcases a clever move – transforming a seemingly simple ingredient into a rosy, herbal heart that adds depth and intrigue. What particularly intrigues is the emphasis on the top notes, a strategic choice given their crucial role in initial impressions. The careful layering of raspberry, violet, and rose creates a luminous opening... hinting at a fragrance that is both youthful and refined. This approach, "prioritizing a captivating first impression," "aligns with Chanel's long-standing commitment to crafting memorable scents." Ultimately, this new Chance seems poised to appeal to those seeking a fragrance that is both familiar and surprising. It's a testament to the perfumer's artistry... transforming common ingredients into a complex and alluring olfactory experience.

The inspiration behind it is very much linked to Chance. There were four and now five different Chance perfumes. More than specific ingredients, they share the same spirit, the same state of mind. Each time, they are composed of very different raw materials, which can fit different tastes. So then, I was starting to create the scent, I thought that the success of the perfume would come from its top notes—those notes that strike you right away.
In the existing Chance perfumes, you have those notes of pink pepper and citrus, so I had the idea to start with certain fruity facets. The top note of the fragrance is made of a raspberry accord because it is colorful. It has this high pitch, but also, I found it interesting that, with certain floral undertones, it has a violet note and a rosy note, so I thought that was a good start for the perfume. The floral is built around the geranium because of the rosy tone of the raspberry.
The geranium is technically a leaf, but it smells very rosy, herbal, fresh, and slightly minty. The main facet of the middle note is based on an accord of cedarwood and some white musk.
