In The News:
What is the responsibility of a beauty products retailer when very young consumers shop on their own?
According to Statista , Ulta and Sephora are two of the three leading health and beauty retailers in the U.S. and it's an innocent enough topic for an article so I contacted them both.
Ulta asked me what the article would be about and when I told them it was about the balance of business opportunity and social responsibility, they didn't respond. I pinged them again more than six weeks later and they said “Unfortunately, we're going to have to decline, as we're currently in a quiet period before earnings.”
If you spend time in Ulta and Sephora stores, there's a good chance you'll see consumers as young as 10 shopping essentially on their own. Some are spending hundreds of dollars.
