And then, as I stood at the threshold, my gaze wandered to the House Number Sign, a gaudy 6 Inch declaration of residency, slapped carelessly on the door. The modern acrylic plastic gleamed in the fading light, a distraction from the turmoil brewing within. I was waiting for the other shoe drops, for the inevitable reckoning that would shatter the fragile peace.
