The contract required him to give away his music business, which he had already built. Artis found this prospect terrifying, leading him to leave the show. Fortunately, he was later released from the contract, allowing him to pursue his music career freely. Artis expressed his appreciation for the Idol team, stating that he "loves" them. Prior to American Idol, he finished third on Season 18 of The Voice in 2020. Artis ultimately finished in the Top 5 of American Idol Season 23.
