Hot Pink Is A Beauty Power Move At Dior’s AW24 Show

Philips, creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup, described the look as 'all very controlled and ladylike,' despite the rehearsal being 'a bit of chaos.' Models prepped with fluorescent pink smudges on their eyes, while hairstylist Guido Palau's French chignons were secured with nets to protect them until the runway.

The make-up application was freehand and not too perfect, with a personal touch from Philips's hand, covered in stains of water-based fluorescent pink pigment. The colour was a nod to Marc Bohan, who spent 30 years as the house's designer and oversaw the birth of Miss Dior in 1967. Pink was a favourite colour of Bohan's, and it was absent from the collection filled with cream, gold, and denim pieces, often emblazoned with hand-painted Miss Dior branding.

Italian-movie-star style in the ’70s was the beauty brief that Peter Philips and Maria Grazia Chiuri discussed for today’s Dior autumn/winter 2024 runway . Fresh from the rehearsal that Philips described as “a bit of chaos,” the look was the opposite: “It’s all very controlled and ladylike,” the creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup explained backstage within the enormous temporary venue built each season at the Tuileries Garden in Paris. Inside, models with fluorescent pink smudges on their eyes prepped in front of mirrors with nets secured to the back of their heads, a way of protecting hairstylist Guido Palau’s French chignons until their first steps onto the runway. Ah, the beauty brief for Dior's autumn/winter 2024 runway show was all about channeling the elegance and sophistication of Italian movie stars of the '70s! Peter Philips, the creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup, and Maria Grazia Chiuri, the house's artistic director, discussed this very theme during the rehearsals.

Philips described the look as "controlled and ladylike," which is quite the departure from the more spontaneous and DIY vibe we saw at the house's haute couture show last month.

Backstage at the Tuileries Garden in Paris, models were prepping in front of mirrors with nets secured to the back of their heads to protect their hairstyles, which were created by the legendary Guido Palau.

The makeup application was freehand and not too perfect, with a focus on fluorescent pink smudges on the eyes, a nod to the favourite colour of Marc Bohan, who spent 30 years as the house's designer and oversaw the birth of Miss Dior in 1967.
