KFC's Saucy Concept Emerges As Brand Revitalization Strategy

As Yum Brands continues its efforts to revitalize the KFC brand, a promising concept has emerged: Saucy. This innovative approach focuses on drinks and tenders, offering customers a unique experience that blends modern technology with experiential on-premise features. The Saucy locations boast a modern, kinetic look and a tech-forward vibe, complete with drive-thru lanes, self-serve kiosks, and inviting spaces perfect for hanging out.

The brand's expansion plans are underway, with three new units set to open, signaling Yum Brands' confidence in Saucy's potential. To complement this growth, Saucy will introduce new limited-time offers that stray from the traditional KFC menu, including a Brussels sprouts-based side, a chicken Caesar salad, and a chicken teriyaki bowl.

These menu items are designed to be paired with Saucy's 11 signature sauces, allowing customers to customize their meals. This strategic approach enables KFC to test new menu items and ideas at Saucy, with the potential for expansion across the main brand's system. A similar strategy was employed by McDonald's with its now-defunct CosMc's concept, which helped develop a lineup of premium beverages now being tested at approximately 500 locations.

The expansion signals Yum Brands sees the drinks- and tenders-focused concept as an important part of its KFC turnaround.
